Boatbuilder & naval architect

Samuel Denomy

Balanced Boatbuilding.

Fifteen years from the shipyard floor to the regulator's desk. I grew up on the Great Lakes, where even the thousand footers are called boats. The name stuck. So did the standards.

About

Three views of the same boat.

Boats are what I know. I started on the drawing board at the University of Michigan, researching propulsion for Great Lakes bulk carriers. I planned steel at a shipyard in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. I spent six years inside the American Bureau of Shipping reviewing vessel stability and load line plans. And I led engineering teams building working vessels out of Houston.

Design office, class society, builder's dock. Most people in this industry see one of those. Mine is a hybrid resume by design. I have worked all three, and I bring every one of them to the boats I take on now. That's the balance.

What I do

Naval architecture
Vessel design, hull forms, arrangements, weights and stability. Boats that float the way the drawings say they will.
Regulatory & class compliance
Stability and load line regulations, statutory plan review, and classification society requirements, learned from the reviewer's side of the desk.
Shipbuilding & production
Detail planning, yard coordination, and the practical work of turning a design package into steel.
Engineering leadership
Building and running engineering teams, and managing complex marine projects from kickoff to delivery.
